Before the 20th century body odor
was not addressed as a regular problem among people. The poor just simply did
not have the means to bathe and the wealthy only bathed on an average of once
or twice a week. The first known deodorant was introduced in the 1880’s, but it
never took hold on the market due to women and men at that time they did not realize
they projected offensive odors and hygiene was not considered offensive no
matter how rancid smelling it could become. Plus it was said that the deodorant
itself had a very unpleasant smell to it.
Finally by the early 20th
century a woman tried to sell an antiperspirant product that her father
developed for himself while performing surgery. Though determined, she was not
very successful at first. She got a break in 1912 at the Atlantic City
Exposition due to hot weather and desperate people, but in the end it did not
last. So she hired a professional to help advertise her product and over time
he was successful and sold her product by making people finally believe that
body odor and perspiration was a social faux pas. Finally by 1929 deodorant was
socially acceptable and people couldn’t live without it. That was the beginning
of how we as humans began to develop are hygiene habits from.
It's impossible to search for the
best deodorant for men and women if one does not take time to learn the pros
and cons surrounding the deodorant vs antiperspirant debate. Many users today
do not even know the difference between the two. I know I did not even know
there was a difference until I started to use Miracle Soap II Products. To me at that time it did not
matter what was on the shelf as long as in the end whatever I was using
addressed any body odor problem. The truth of the matter is that it does make a
difference whether one uses a deodorant or an antiperspirant. These two types
work in very different ways and while the results may look the same, it does
not necessarily mean that your body is doing the same thing when you are using
one or the other. Down below are the specific definitions to these products.
ANTIPERSPIRANT
- The antiperspirant is a product
specifically designed to stop the user from sweating. This goes into the heart
of preventing body odor; sweating feeds the bacteria in our skin which in turn
produces body odor as it feasts on the substances in one's sweat. To stop the
body odor, antiperspirant products stop the sweat altogether by blocking the
sweat pores. It accomplishes this using a variety of chemicals like aluminum.
Most of the products on supermarket shelves today are of the antiperspirant
variety.
DEODORANT
- The term deodorant is a derivation
of the root word de-odor which implies the action of taking the odor away or
preventing it altogether. The best deodorant for men or women does not
necessarily prevent the sweating process; rather, the substances in the
deodorant prevent the production of body odor by killing off bacteria. A person
using a deodorant will continue to sweat, but not have the odor that typically
accompanies sweating.
Disadvantages of both product types
are fairly obvious. The antiperspirant inhibits a natural bodily process which
serves the purpose of regulating body temperature during an intense workout as
well as flushing out the toxins and waste products produced from metabolic
processes. Preventing the sweating process also inhibits regulation of internal
temperature and eliminates one of the body's ways of disposing waste. For
deodorants, the main disadvantage is that one will continue to sweat throughout
the day. Even without the body odor, sweating alone leads to the feeling of
being uncomfortable. Those who sweat a lot will actually stain their shirts
with sweat and if this happens at inopportune times, it can affect performance,
confidence, and mess up one's looks. Experts say to buy a product that contains
both of them to reach a level of balance, but what the experts don’t tell you
is what ingredients they are putting in these products and in all honesty most
would agree that they do not look at the ingredients on the containers. We just
grab what works and what smells good.
One ingredient that people do not
pay attention to is aluminum which contains a toxin. It is added in the form of
aluminum salts to prevent sweating under the arms, it does this by temporarily
blocking the pores of the skin and it can be absorbed by the body in the
process, especially if there is any skin damage caused by shaving. There is
also the environmental issue, because the toxins are washed down the drain into
the waterways, causing pollution. Although aluminum is used extensively in
everyday life, including in the form of foil to wrap food during cooking, it
has been connected to a range of diseases, including Alzheimer's, breast
cancer, kidney problems and seizures. Research has shown that if people over
use antiperspirants containing aluminum, they increase the risk of contracting
one of these conditions.
The ancient Egyptians living in
intense heat used to apply herbs and spices to counteract body odor. Some
worked better than others and cinnamon was very popular as well as lavender. Your
obvious choice for a healthy product would be to find one with essential oils
and all natural ingredients; these will be much kinder to your skin and quite
possibly to your health.
With the fourth of July just around the corner we
all know that the hottest part of summer is almost here. I will tell you that I
am originally born and raised in Wisconsin and there are days that I struggle immensely
with the humid heat that we have here in the south. So after I found out that
the Miracle Soap II products have a deodorant that I can use I have now never
had to go back to the store and stand in that isle with about 20 other people
staring at which products will work the best. Do you know how much money you
actually spend a year on trying different brands to see which one will work? First you can always bathe in the Miracle Soap
II, dry off, and then use the Miracle Soap II Neutralizer Liquid or Gel all
over your body especially under the arms. Use the Miracle Soap II Neutralizer
Liquid to moisturize arm pits and then use the Miracle Soap II Deodorant Stone
daily. I will tell you for this northern girl who chose to move to the south it
works incredibly well! The Miracle Soap II Deodorant Stone in fact is the
finest body deodorant on the market today. It is 300% more effective than any
commercial deodorant and it is 100% pure and natural.
